WHAT KIND OF CAKES DO YOU MAKE?
I specialise in making sponge layer cakes (sorry no fruit cakes here). Sponge cakes offer a blank canvas to create all manner of wonderful flavours, from a traditional victoria sponge to a sticky toffee guiness cake! Flavour options are only limited by your imagination, but I do have a flavour menu to help you when choosing your cake. My cakes can be stacked and tiered from 2 - 6 layers and filled with lashings of jams, curds buttercream or chocolate ganache. This makes for a truly scrumptious and impressive cake.
I focus my decorations on modern/contemporary styles and specialise in buttercream and ganache decoration to achieve this. Not only does this make your cake a truly unique creation it will also taste amazing!
I don't make traditional fondant cakes but on occasion I may incorporate fondant into the design of your wedding cake if it is the best option to create the style and look that you want for your cake.
HOW WILL YOU DESIGN MY CAKE?
If you would like a bespoke cake, I love to find out a few things to get the inspiration flowing, including preferred colours, themes, styles or anything you have seen that has sparked your interest. Feel free to invite me to your Pinterest board! Once I have your inspiration and the flavours and fillings you like, I am more than happy to sketch your cake to help envisage it should you wish. I can then tweak it to make it your perfect cake and we go from there! Some clients prefer to let me roll with my imagination, others have a specific idea, I love to work with both!
CAN YOU GIVE ME A PRICE FOR A WEDDING CAKE?
Absolutely, but it depends on the number of people you would like to feed, how many tiers the cake has and additional decoration, customisation and complexity of your final design. Each bespoke wedding cake is quoted on an individual basis, estimates can be given if you provide me with your date, venue and serving numbers. Full quotes are provided following a design consultation and cake tasting session.
HOW MUCH NOTICE DO YOU NEED?
For wedding cakes the more notice the better! The summer months are booked up quickly so I suggest contacting me as soon possible in order to avoid disappointment.
For celebration cakes I can be more flexible but if you require a cake between April - October I suggest contacting me as soon possible to book as wedding cake bookings can take up much of my time. (Please note I have minimum order amount of £100 on celebration cakes ordered between April - October.)
I am a part time baker so can only take a limited number of orders per week.
DO YOU NEED A DEPOSIT?
Yes. For wedding cakes I ask for a £50 deposit (or 25% of your total order value if your order is over £300). For celebration cakes its a £25 deposit or 25% of your total order value if your order is over £200. (Please note I have minimum order amount of £100 on celebration cakes ordered between April - October.)
This deposit secures your date, then the balance is to be paid in advance of your cake being delivered. This is one month for wedding cakes and one week for other cake orders. If you place your order within two weeks of your party date, then the full balance will be due on ordering.
CAN YOU DELIVER MY WEDDING CAKE?
Yes absolutely, this is part of the service I provide, the last thing you want on your wedding day is to be worrying about who is picking the cake up! I provide free local delivery and setup within a 10 mile radius of Little Chelly Cakes premise, for delivery further afield an additional charge will be payable at £1.00 per mile. When you get in touch just let me know your venue and I will include this in your quote. Please make sure that you provide me with the correct address and postcode of your venue for delivery.
Free collection is always an option for celebration cakes, and I will package up your cake carefully, and make sure it's safely stowed in your car before you leave. (I do not recommend this for wedding cakes).
HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CAKE?
Once your cake has been cut any leftovers should be kept in an airtight container and they will keep anywhere between 3-7 days depending on ingredients and storage conditions. Should you have any leftover wedding cake they will need to be kept as cool as possible and your wedding venue will usually box up and store any leftovers for you ready to take home after your wedding. Once you are home, the cake should be kept cool, and then brought to room temperature before serving.
I will always make storage recommendations to you based on the day's weather and also the filling of the cake as some are more sensitive to warmth than others! I also liaise with your venue to ensure delivery and set up runs as smoothly as possible.
ARE WEDDING CAKE TASTING SESSIONS FREE?
I offer a free cake tasting session as part of your wedding cake design process once you have booked and paid your deposit to secure your date.
If you want to try my cakes before booking your date this is also possible. I will charge you £20 for the session to be held at my premises. Should you then go ahead and book your wedding cake with me the £20 will be deducted from the total cost of your wedding cake.
CAN YOU MAKE CAKES FOR SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
Absolutely! I can accommodate most dietary requirements including gluten free, vegan and allergy related intolerances (nuts, dairy, eggs etc.) I am very conscious about cross-contamination and allergy awareness and I will always bake special diet cakes before others to avoid any cross contamination. I also advise any specialist cakes being incorporated into a wedding cake are put at the very top of the cake and cut separately to avoid cross contamination on the day.
Please note my kitchen is not a certified allergy free kitchen so I cannot definitely guarantee that there will be no nuts, dairy, eggs or flour in the cakes as my kitchen handles these products on a daily basis. If you have severe allergic reactions to any of the above items I suggest that you order from a company with a certified allergy free kitchen.
WHATS THE NEXT STEP TO ORDERING A CAKE?
You can either fill out the contact form, email me, or give me a call. I will then do my best to contact you within 24 hours to discuss initial ideas and check availability. However please bare in mind I am a part time baker and weekends in particular are busy making, delivering and setting up cakes. (Any enquiries sent over a weekend will be responded to the following Wednesday)
